Andrew Garfield was born in August of 1983 in Los Angeles, California. When he was three, his parents moved to Britain where his mother was born, and Garfield was raised in Epsom, Surrey. When he was younger, Garfield was interested in swimming and practiced gymnastics. He originally wanted to study business but became interested in acting when he was a teenager. He attended Priory Preparatory School and later City of London Freemen’s School, later, training at the Central School of Speech and Drama at the University of London. He graduated in 2004 and began taking acting classes in Surrey.

Garfield began his career working stage productions, performing at the Royal Exchange Theater in Manchester. He earned several awards for his performances including outstanding newcomer at the 2006 Evening Standard Theater Awards. He made his onscreen debut in a short film in 2005 called Mumbo Jumbo, then landing some minor roles in a few British television programs such as Sugar Rush and Doctor Who. His American break-out role was as Facebook co-founder Eduardo Savarin in the drama The Social Network. In 2010, Garfield was cast as Peter Parker/Spider Man in Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider Man, a makeover the of the Toby McGuire series of films. The film was a big success, raking in more than $752 million worldwide. He has since gone on to host Saturday Night Live and appeared in a music video for the song We Exist by Arcade Fire.
