Bruce Springsteen Biography

Bruce Springsteen was born in New Jersey in September of 1949. He grew up in Freehold Borough and attended high school there. His father was an occasional bus driver, his mother a legal secretary.  He was raised Roman Catholic and attended Catholic schools but he was often at odds with the nuns and fought against the restrictions he felt were imposed on him. He finally transferred to a public high school where he barely graduated because his only interest was playing his guitar. Springsteen states he wanted to be a singing star after seeing Elvis Presley on television when he was 7 years old.

Springsteen began playing publicly while he was still in his teens, first at trailer parks, then at the Elks lodge. His mother took out a loan to buy him a $60 Kent guitar. He failed his physical exam, which enabled him to avoid the Vietnam draft. Springsteen joined several bands including Steel Mill and Earth, but finally signed with Columbia Records in 1972. It was his third album in 1984, Born in the U.S.A., that brought him the fame he wanted. This extremely popular album has gone certified platinum 15 times over and has produced 7 top 10 singles. Springsteen and his E Street Band have performed record-breaking tours with all shows being sold out months in advance. Springsteen has a staggering amount of awards including 20 Grammy Awards, 4 American Music Awards, 2 Golden Globe Awards, and 1 Academy Award. Springsteen was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1999.

Springsteen has a net worth of $300 million.  He loves cars and has an amazing number of both classic and modern day luxury cars including a modified 2013 Range Rover and a 1957 Chevy Bel Air convertible that has an estimated value of almost $500,000.  Springsteen has said he has no plans to stop touring or making music, which means he still has years of earning power to add to his impressive wealth and net worth.
