Carrie, Princess Leia Biography
Carrie Frances Fisher was born in October of 1956 to famous actor/singer parents Debbie Reynolds and Eddie Fisher. Her parents divorced when she was 2. Fisher spent most of her time as a child reading books; so much so that family members nicknamed her “the bookworm.” While attending Beverly Hills High School, she made her theater debut with her mother in the play Irene, which caused her to drop out. She later attended Sarah Lawrence College, but did not graduate.
Fisher made her first film debut in the 1975 movie Shampoo, alongside Warren Beatty and Goldie Hawn. It was her following film in 1977, Star Wars, which brought her fame and fortune and the role she is most remembered for; Princess Leia. Although she went on to perform in numerous other movies, including Ages of God, The Blues Brothers, and Hannah and Her Sisters, it was the Star Wars Trilogy that she is best known for.
This multi-talented actress also published numerous book, most of them semi-autobiographical. Her book Postcards From the Edge, was made into a very successful film starring Meryl Streep. Other books include Surrender the Pink, Wishful Drinking, and Delusions of Grandma.
Married for a short time to singer Paul Simon, she gave birth to a daughter, Billie Lourd, in 1992, after divorcing Simon. Although Fisher describes her child’s father, talent agent Bryan Lourd, as her second husband, the two never actually married.Fisher was loved for her bluntness regarding her bi-polar disorder, drug addiction, and electroshock therapy. Her therapy dog, a French bulldog named Gary, accompanied the actress everywhere.
Unfortunately, Fisher suffered a fatal heart attack while flying from London to Los Angeles. Although valiant efforts were made to save her life, her daughter reported that her mother had passed away December 27th, 2016.
Fisher had a net worth of $25 million at the time of her death. There is no report of a will at this time. Fisher’s mother, Debbie Reynolds, also passed away, 24 hours after her daughter, from a stroke. Mother and daughter will be buried together January 6th,2017, in what has been described as an “ultra private” service at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Los Angeles, California.
