Edward Norton, Ed Norton Biography
Edward Harrison Norton was born in August of 1969 in Boston, Massachusetts. He was raised in Columbia, Maryland, and attended Wilde Lake High School. Norton graduated and then attended the prestigious Yale University. He graduated with a Bachelor’s of Art degree in History in 1991. After college, he spent several years working for his grandfather’s company, Enterprise Community Partners, in Osaka, Japan. This popular actor does speak some Japanese as a result. He moved to New York City in 1992 to pursue an acting career.
Norton spent a few years working in the theater before he landed his acting debut role in the movie Primal Fear in 1996. This role earned Norton an Oscar nomination. In 1998, he starred in the film American History X, which earned him a Golden Globe Award nomination. Norton has since gone on to play numerous roles in lucrative films including Everyone Says I Love You, The People VS Larry Flint, Fight Club, Red Dragon, The Score, The Italian Job, The Painted Veil, The Incredible Hulk, Pride and Glory, and Birdman.
Norton is also an active environmentalist and activist. In 2010, he was named the United Nations Goodwill Ambassador for Biodiversity. He is also the president of the American branch of the Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust. Norton is an avid pilot who has his pilots license and enjoys flying his Cessna 206.
With all his experience in activism, it is no wonder that Norton has raised more than $389,000 for a Syrian family who wishes to move to Troy, Michigan. Norton is a co-founder of Crowdrise. Last Friday, he began a fundraising effort to help this small Syrian family of three, along with other Syrians who are trying to relocate in the US.
Norton has a current net worth of $70 million and has numerous houses, including a New York apartment worth $2.3 million, several houses in the Los Angeles and Malibu, along with his grandfather’s mansion. If he should win an Emmy for his role in Birdman, this will increase Norton’s net worth substantially.
