Liz Taylor Biography

Elizabeth was born at her parent’s home in a suburb of London. Her parents, Francis and Sara, were Americans that were living in England. Her father was an art dealer, her mother a former stage actress.

Liz began taking ballet lessons at the tender age of 3. Her parents relocated back to the United States just before the beginning of World War II. They settled in Los Angeles, where her father started a new art gallery. Many of the paintings he featured attracted the attention of numerous Hollywood celebrities.

MGM cast Liz in 1943, along with Roddy McDowall, in Lassie Come Home.  The movie was a hit and MGM then signed Liz to a 7 year contract at $100 per week. Her role at 12 years of age in National Velvet made her a star. Liz made her own fortune with each picture she made. Cleopatra alone earned her $4 million dollars, which today would be the equivalent of $47 million.

Liz also launched a joint venture with Elizabeth Arden in 1991 selling cosmetics and what is one of the most famous scents in the world, White Diamonds. This investment venture earned her more than $1 billion.

Taylor owned homes in the prestigious Bel Air sector of Los Angeles, in addition to homes in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, and Gstaad, Switzerland. Her Bel Air estate has been valued at $150 million. When she passed away, she also left behind an enormous amount of jewels and jewelry, its estimated net worth being $1 billion.

Liz Taylor died of congestive heart failure at the age of 79, in 2011, after suffering from many years of bad health. Her net worth at her death was $600 million dollars.
