George Lindemann was born in New York in 1936. He attended Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics.

Lindemann began his career by working for his father’s cosmetic and eye car company, Permalens.  He was president of Smith, Miller, and Patch, a pharmaceutical company, from 1962 to 1972. During this time he sold the family business to Cooper Labs for $75 million. Lindemann turned around and founded Vision Cable in 1972. He sold this company to Samuel Newhouse 10 years later for $220 million. A lot of people would have retired but Lindemann founded a cell phone company called Metro Mobile. He sold this company to Bell Atlantic in 1991 for $2.5 billion. Always ready for a new adventure, Lindemann became CEO of Southern Union Pipeline Company, which was sold to Energy Transfer Equity in 2012 for $2 billion. Lindemann now owns 19 Spanish speaking radio stations, is the President of Cellular Dynamics, as well as the Managing General Partner of Activated Communications since 1982.  He has also been a General Partner of Panhandle Eastern since 1990, as well as sitting on the Boards of both Hudson Clean Energy Partners and the Boards of HI Europe Limited.

Lindemann is a well-known art collector who has passed on his love of art to his sons. George Jr. runs the Bass Museum in Florida and his son Adam owns an art gallery in New York.

Lindemann lives in Palm Beach, Florida and owns several other homes in Greenwich, Connecticut and on the Upper East Side. He spends a great deal of time on his 180 foot schooner, named Adela, with which he has won international sailing competitions. Lindemann has a current net worth of $4.2 billion, making him one of the richest men in America.
