Jeremy Jacobs Biography
Jeremy Jacobs was born in Brooklyn, New York, in January of 1940. His father and two uncles had founded a company in 1915 that sold concessions to theaters, and later to major league ballparks. When the health of his uncles were failing in the 1950’s, Jacobs’ father took over the company. Jacobs attended the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Management, where he received his B.A. Degree. He later completed the Harvard School of Business Advanced Management Program.
When Jacobs’ father passed away in 1968, he took over the family business. He was 28 years old when he took over Delaware North, which is now a global hospitality and food service business with headquarters in Buffalo, New York. Delaware North employs more than 55,000 people all over the world and has more than $3 billion in annual revenues. The company operates in the lodging, airport, gaming, sporting, and entertainment venues. The company also owns TD Garden, which is home to the Boston Celtics and the Bruins. It is one of the top sports and concert venues in America. TD Garden was paid for entirely with Jacobs’ own funds. The company continues to grow dramatically. It entered a joint venture with Churchill Downs in 2013 and purchased a majority stake in the Patina Restaurant Group in 2014. Jacobs also owns a 20 percent share of the New England Sports Network.
Jacobs purchased the National Hockey League’s Boston Bruins in 1975. Although he gave up the role of CEO to his son Charlie, he is still very active with the team. Jacobs has stated that he would also like to purchase the Buffalo Bills, but cannot due to NFL regulations.
Jacobs has six children and lives in East Aurora, New York. He has a net worth of $3.6 billion, which is increasing steadily with the family’s recent business acquisitions.
