Jon Hamm Biography

Jon Hamm was born in March of 1971 in St. Louis, Missouri. His parents divorced when he was 2 and he lived with his mother until she died from colon cancer when he was 10. He then lived with his father.  Hamm’s first acting role was playing Winnie the Pooh in first grade. In high school, Hamm played Judas in Godspell. He didn’t really take acting seriously at the time and found that he would rather play sports.

He attended the University of Texas where he got into trouble during a hazing incident at his fraternity. His father passed away when he turned 20. Hamm returned home for a short while, and then switched to the University of Missouri. While there he answered an ad from a theater company to play in a Shakespearian play. He graduated college with a BA degree in English in 1993.  Hamm moved to Los Angeles in 1995 with his car and $150 in cash. He worked as a waiter while attending auditions then began in theater, but had a difficult time finding steady work as an actor. He gave himself an ultimatum; he would find steady work by the time he was 30 or he would give up on acting.

As luck would have it, in 2000 he received the role of Burt Ridley on the show Providence. His original appearance turned into 19 shows. He is now best known as Don Drape in the television series Mad Men. He currently earns $275,000 for each episode. He won a Golden Globe in 2008 and has since gone on to appear in dozens of television shows and movies including The Town, Sucker Punch, and Bridesmaids.

Hamm lives in New York with his longtime partner, actress Jennifer Westfeldt. He has a current net worth of $30 million, which is sure to increase in the next few years. He is working on the Disney movie “Million Dollar Arm”, is going do voice acting in the new Minions movie, and is scheduled to star with Daniel Radcliffe in a television comedy.
