LeBron James Biography

LeBron James, born in 1984 to a teenage mother, grew up in very poor sections of the Akron, Ohio area. As a toddler, James’ mother gave him a miniature basketball hoop and he would play with it for hours.  His mother struggled to provide for her son and they moved frequently. Because of this, his mother allowed James to live with a family friend, Frank Walker, who taught football and introduced the 9 year old James to basketball when he was 9 years old.

James played with an amateur basketball team. He made lifelong friends with these team members and they all vowed to attend the same high school, which they did; St Vincent-St. Mary High School, a mainly white private school at the time.

James became an important player for his high school basketball team, often scoring more than 21 points each game. During his sophomore year he joined the USA Today All USA first team, the youngest player ever to do so. During his junior year he was named the Gatorade National Player of the Year. James appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated and SLAM magazines, even though he was still a teenager. He had yet to graduate from high school, but it was already clear that James would be an NBA star.

James was the first pick of the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2003 draft. He became the youngest player to score 40 points per game and this was only his first season. James has gone on to play for the United States Olympic basketball team and won a bronze medal in 2004, then a gold medal in the 2008 Olympics.

James has a net worth of $450 million but is well on his way to becoming a billionaire. He earns $19 million through his basketball contract, but more than $53 million through endorsements, with lucrative contracts from Coca-Cola, Baskin Robbins, Samsung, Nike, Beats by Dre, and Microsoft, just to name a few. This young basketball star is on his way towards becoming the richest professional athlete in history.
