Lena Dunham was born in May of 1986 in New York, New York. Daughter of a painter and a photographer, she was raised in the Brooklyn area of New York but spent summers in Salisbury, Connecticut. She attended St. Ann’s School in Brooklyn, later attending The New School for one year before transferring to Oberlin College. She graduated in 2008 with a degree in creative writing.

Dunham wrote and directed a few short films and web series but received recognition for her 2010 feature film Tiny Furniture, which she wrote, produced, and directed. It starred high school classmates and received numerous honors including the New Generation Award at the Los Angeles Film Critic Association Awards. The success of this film led her to her series “Girls” being chosen by HBO in 2012. Dunham writes, directs, and stars in the series, which is a fictional account of 20-something year old girls. “Girls” has received multiple Emmy nominations in 2012 including Outstanding Lead Actress, Outstanding Directing, Outstanding Comedy Series, and Outstanding Writing. Dunham signed a book deal in October of 2012 for a cool $3.5 million. Bidding for her first novel was very competitive, originally starting at $1 million. Dunham earned more than $4 million from the sale of her book between June of 2013 and June of 2014.

Dunham is also well-known for appearing nude at the 2012 Emmy Awards opening skit. She also appeared in a video advertisement promoting President Obama’s re-election. She hosted Saturday Night Live in March of 2014 and is currently working on several new films and documentaries, two of which are due out in 2015. Dunham has a current net worth of $30 million but is sure to reach super stardom and ever increasing net worth if she continues to work at this high speed rate.
