Marianne Liebmann Biography
Marianne Cargill Liebmann was born in 1953 and graduated from Montana State University with a bachelor’s degree. She is the great granddaughter of William Cargill, the founder of Cargill, Inc.; a Minnesota based Multinational Corporation which her great grandfather founded back in 1865. He started with a one silo grain storage facility in Iowa, located at the end of railroad. His earnings and riches grew substantially when the railroad industries and agricultural needs spread across the Western half of the US after the end of the Civil War. Cargill’s major business base included the distribution, trading, and purchase of grain, energy trading, manufacture of feeds, livestock, steel, the production of vegetable oil and fats, and even glucose syrup and starch for industrial purposes. Cargill also runs a large financial services corporation.
Over the years, Cargill remains a privately owned, family business, with more than 85 percent of the company shares still owned by descendants of William Cargill. The last family member to serve as CEO, Whitney MacMillan, retired in 1995. It has been estimated that Liebmann owns a 7 percent share of this massively successful company, along with 13 other quiet secretive billionaire relatives. Cargill has reported annual revenues of more than $130 billion. Cargill is so large that it has operations on every single continent on the planet except Antarctica.
Liebmann is an extremely private person whose name is unknown to almost everyone who does not know that her maiden name is Cargill. She is married, with two children, and lives a quiet life in Bozeman, Montana. She is currently involved in overseeing a project in her city to construct homes for the poor and the elderly. Liebmann has a current net worth of $3.2 billion, even though she has no direct involvement with the day to day operations of the company.
