Matthew McConaughey Biography

Matthew David McConaughey was born in Uvalde, Texas in November of 1969.  His parents had a volatile relationship and married and divorced each other three times. The family moved to Longview, Texas in 1980. Although McConaughey’s original intention was to become a lawyer, he realized that he what he really wanted to do was become an actor. He attended the University of Texas at Austin College of Communication, and graduated in 1993 with a degree in Radio-Television- Film.

McConaughey began acting in 1991, first appearing in television commercials. He did some small roles in Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Angels in the Outfield, and Boys on the Side. His biggest break came in the film version of the John Grisham novel, A Time to Kill in 1996. Soon, McConaughey was accepting major parts and leading roles in numerous movies including Amistad, Contact, and U-571. In the early 2000’s, McConaughey became well-known for starring in romantic comedies such as How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, The Wedding Planner, and Failure to Launch. McConaughey wanted to branch out and began taking other, more serious roles including Killer Joe, The Lincoln Lawyer, The Wolf of Wall Street, and The Dallas Buyers Club. In fact, the Dallas Buyers Club earned him an Academy Award for Best Actor, as well as a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor.

McConaughey recently purchased a massive mansion valued at $4 million in Austin, Texas, where he lives with his wife and three children. He also owns a house in the exclusive beach front community of Malibu, California. McConaughey loves cars and has a vast collection including a 1971 Corvette, a 1981 Camaro Z28, and a Lincoln MKX. He has a current net worth of $77 million and with a new movie in the works, this number is sure to rise.
