Mel Gibson Biography
Mel Gibson was born in New York in 1956. His family moved to Australia when he was 12 years old, which is where he developed his Australian accent. Gibson graduated from the National Institute of Dramatic Art in Australia and appeared in his first movie, Summer City, in 1977. Gibson snagged the main role in the movie Mad Max and his career took off from there. Since then, Gibson has starred in numerous movies, produced and directed his own film, The Passion of the Christ, and has received two Oscars for his efforts. Gibson has been paid as much as $25 million to make a movie and in 2004 his earnings were $210 million.
Gibson has also produced numerous projects for television, including a 2008 PBS documentary and a biopic about The Three Stooges. Gibson most recently played two villains in Machete Kills, released in 2013, and The Expendables opposite Sylvester Stallone in 2014.
Besides his movie income, Gibson has a diverse investment portfolio including multiple properties located in Malibu, California, several more in Costa Rica and Australia, along with a private island in Fiji, which was valued at $15 million. Gibson sold one of his farms in Australia for $6 million in 2004. He also sold a 45,000 acre ranch in Montana and bought a 400 acre ranch in Costa Rica for $26 million. Gibson owns his own movie production company, which recently finished a movie called Get The Gringo, which was mostly filmed in Mexico.
It seems that Gibson really loves children. His new girlfriend, Rosalind Ross, a 26 year old screenwriter, announced that they are expecting Gibson’s 9th child (Ross’ first child) sometime in early 2017. Gibson, 60, had 7 children with his first wife, and one with Oksana Grigorieva. Gibson’s oldest child is 36.
Gibson’s current net worth is $425 million, but chances are good that he would have been a billionaire by now had he not gotten divorced from his first wife, Robyn Moore. Moore received the highest ever divorce award in California of $400 million. He also paid $750,000 to his second wife and makes child support payments. Gibson’s latest directing effort is a World War II drama, due out November 4th, 2016
