One Direction Biography

The London based boy band, One Direction, commonly abbreviated as 1D, is an English-Irish singing band made up of Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, and Liam Payne. After performing on the British television program The X Factor in 2010, the group signed with Simon Cowell’s record label Syco Records.

Due to social media exposure, the group was quickly propelled into international success. All four of One Directions albums, Up All Night, Take Me Home, Midnight Memories, and Four, have topped charts, broke sales records, and generated huge hit singles, including “What Makes You Beautiful.”  Banking on their popularity, Cowell published a book called “One Direction” just prior to the release of their debut album. The book also reached #1 on the list of best sellers.

One Direction has won more than 177 awards including MTV Awards, People’s Choice  Awards, BRIT Awards, and Pure Beauty Awards, just to name a few. This boy band has made it into the Guinness World Records for the most Twitter followers of a pop group, the highest debut by a UK group on the American singles chart, and the first UK group to debut at #1 in the USA with a debut album.  Currently, the members of One Direction are considered to be the wealthiest musicians in the United Kingdom under the age of 30.

Although One Direction did not win the X Factor contest, they have made themselves successful and super-rich.  The all boy band has a current net worth of $30 million. They earn most of their money through ticket and album sales, but have begun an aggressive marketing program. If this super popular band continues to make successful albums, they are certain to increase their earning power and net worth. This band is currently on an international stadium tour which is scheduled to continue through 2015.
