Paul McCartney Biography

Sir James Paul McCartney was born on June 18, 1942 to midwife Mary and musician Jim McCartney in Liverpool, England.

McCartney’s father Jim encouraged him to play an instrument and he played trumpet before trading it in for a guitar when rock and roll became popular, rationalizing that he could not sing with a trumpet.

He met George Harrison on the school bus in 1954 when he was 13. At age 15 McCartney met John Lennon and his band, The Quarrymen. Soon after the band invited him to join as a rhythm guitarist. The next year Harrison joined as lead guitarist.

Thus The Beatles was formed. The band is widely recognized as the most influential act in rock music history. As part of The Beatles, McCartney wrote or co-wrote some of the most famous songs in the world, including Yesterday, We Can Work It Out, Helter Skelter, Eleanor Rigby, Hey Jude, Let it Be, and Penny Lane.

After the band’s breakup in 1970 Paul McCartney pursued a solo career, and has gone on to considerable fame and fortune. He has released twenty-two pop and five classical albums as a solo artist. In 1999 he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a solo artist.

McCartney’s net worth is $1 billion. At age 72 he continues to release new music and tour. His net worth is continually growing due to royalties from The Beatles music as well as his work as a solo artist.
