Paul Tudor Jones II Biography

Paul Tudor Jones was born in September of 1954 in Memphis, Tennessee. He attended an all-boys elementary school, Presbyterian Day School, and then Memphis University School. He earned an undergraduate degree in economics from the University of Virginia in 1976.

Jones’ first job was working the trading floors as a clerk, but he was soon working as a broker for E. F, Hutton & Co. He worked strictly on his own for almost three years but Jones has stated that he was extremely bored. He was accepted to Harvard Business School but changed his mind at the last minute, believing that they couldn’t possibly teach him anything new. His cousin advised Jones to go to New Orleans to talk to a commodity broker named Eli Tullis, who hired Jones and taught him everything he knows today.

Jones is the founder of Tudor Investment Corporation, which manages hedge funds. Since opening his business Jones has consistently returned an annual average of 19 percent to his investors. Jones has numerous investments and enjoys his money to the fullest. He owns a Florida Key’s estate valued at $14.5 million that sits on 6.5 acres of ocean front property, full scale tennis courts, a swimming pool, and large aquariums. Not content with this property, Jones recently purchased another Florida estate in Palm Beach for which he paid $71.2 million.

Jones is also generous with his money, however, making large donations to his alma mater including a $35 million donation for the construction of a new basketball arena, as well as a $12 million dollar gift for the creation of a new science center. Jones has a current net worth of $4.6 billion and even though his hedge funds did not perform as well in 2014 as previously, he should be right back on top of the financial pile in 2015.
