Rafael Nadal Biography

Rafael Nadal was born in Manacor, Spain, in 1986. His father owns several businesses; his mother was a stay at home wife. Nadal’s uncle, Miguel Angel Nadal, was a professional soccer player who recognized his nephew’s natural talent for tennis. Nadal was only 3 when another uncle, Toni Nadal, a professional tennis player, introduced him to the game of tennis.

Nadal won an under-12 regional tennis championship when he was 8. At 12 years of age, he won both the European and Spanish tennis titles in his age group. In fact, Nadal was spending almost all his time playing either soccer or tennis. So much so that his father, not wanting his son to fail at school, told him that he had to choose one game and forget the other one. Nadal choose tennis.

The Spanish tennis federation asked Nadal’s parents to move him to Barcelona to continue his tennis training. Nadal was 14 and his parents refused because they worried that it would hurt his education. His father believed that Nadal could train at home and still be an excellent athlete. The tennis federation gave the Nadal family less financial support because of their decision, but Nadal’s father made up the difference.

Nadal went pro at the age of 15. He beat Roger Federer at the age of 17 and helped Spain win over the US in the junior Davis Cup division. Nadal won the French Open the first time he played it, something that had not been done in more than 20 years. Nadal gets so excited about winning, he is well known for his habit of biting his winning trophies.

This young tennis player has a current net worth of $100 million and this is certainly a drop in the bucket should he continue his winning ways. The young Nadal appears to be on a winning streak and will have many, many more purses to win and trophies to bite.
