Roger Wang Biography
H. Roger Wang was born in mainland China in 1948. Shortly after his birth, his family moved to Taiwan. Wang immigrated to the US in the early 1970’s to attend school. He graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University with a BA degree in business administration. After moving to California, he first began working in the real estate market. Soon, he was buying properties in that state and later added insurance and hotel establishments to his name. Wang owns the Transpacific Management Company of Los Angeles, which handles his business in the US.
After returning to China in 1992, Wang founded the Golden Eagle International Group in Nanjing. He started off small by building a department store and a tower, but it did not take long before Wang’s small beginnings turned into a huge conglomerate, which involved just about everything from car maintenance to the development of real estate. In 1995, this super savvy businessman went on to found the Golden Eagle Retail Group solely to operate his department stores within China. Wang is the main shareholder of Golden Eagle Retail Group, which went public on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in 2006. What started off as a one person operation has grown to more than 5,000 employees and extensive locations throughout China. Wang sold a 4.9 percent stake in his department store chains to Andrew and Peggy Cherng in January of 2015 for a reported $103 million. This on the go leader in business is a member of the Committee of 100 in the US, which is a group of Chinese-Americans that encourage and promote Chinese-US ties.
Wang is married and has two daughters. One of his daughters is set to appear on the upcoming reality television show “Rich Kids of Instagram”. She hopes to join her father in the real estate business and learn all she can. This rags to riches billionaire splits his time between his homeland and his luxurious estate in Beverly Hills, California. Wang has a current net worth of $3.4 billion, but it remains to be seen if he can maintain his high level of income with the current crash of the Hong Kong Stock Market in late August of 2015.
