Scarlett Johansson was born in New York City in November of 1984. Her family had little money as she was growing up, but her mother was a film buff. Johansson and her twin brother attended elementary school in Greenwich Village and began theatrical training at Professional Children’s School in Manhattan. Her mother soon began taking her to auditions. Although she tried for both commercials and films, Johansson took rejections so hard that her mother soon limited her to film auditions only.
