Steve was born in Detroit, Michigan, to his mother, Beatrice, and his father Frederic. Steven grew up in the very affluent area of Farmington Hills, Michigan. He graduated from a private college preparatory school in Beverly Hills, Michigan, with a perfect SAT score. He attended college and engineering classes at Lawrence Technological University. He graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1977 from Harvard with a B.A. in economics and applied mathematics.

Steve was the manager for his college football team and worked on the Harvard newspaper and lived down the hall from fellow sophomore and friend Bill Gates. In 1980, Steve dropped out of the Stanford Graduate School of Business to join Microsoft.

Steve’s original salary in 1980 at Microsoft was $50,000 per year and a percentage of ownership in the company. During the next 20 years, Steve was the head of several division within Microsoft including, Operations, Sales, Support, and Operating Systems Development. In 1992 he became Executive Vice President of Sales and Support. Steve led the development of the .NET Framework. Soon after he was promoted to President of Microsoft. That title made Steve the number two man at Microsoft, with his only superior being Bill Gates.

While CEO of Microsoft in 2009, Steve earned compensation of $1,276,627 dollars with a base salary of $665,833 and a bonus of $600,000 with an additional compensation of $10,794.

In May of 2014, Steve used his assets to place a bid of $2 billion dollars to buy the Los Angeles Clippers of the National Basketball Association. He retired from acting CEO of Microsoft in February of 2014, and Forbes lists him as the 51st richest person on their Forbes 400 list with a net worth  of $22.1 billion dollars.
