J. Christopher and Jude Reyes Biography
The Reyes brothers are perhaps the world’s new dynamic duo. The older brother, Christopher, was born in December of 1953 and graduated from the University of Maryland. Jude graduated from Wofford College.
Along with some help from their father, the Reyes brothers purchased a small Schlitz beer distribution business in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Their total investment in this business was a mere $74,000. The brothers ran all aspects of the operation and slowly began to acquire more beer distribution businesses and additional brands, including Chicago Beer Systems. The pair formed Reyes Holdings. Since 1976, they have gone on to acquire more than 115 beer distribution operations including Crest Beverage, Harbor Distributing Co., Premium Distributors, Gate City Beverage, Windy City Distributing, Chicago Beverage Systems, Premium Distributors of Virginia, Lee Distributors, and Premium Distributors of Maryland. As of 2012, Reyes Holdings was the top US beer distributor.
Reyes Holdings began to expand their empire beyond the distribution of beer and in 1998 they purchased The Martin Brower Company, which is a dedicated McDonald’s distribution business. Another successful acquisition has been Reinhardt Food Service. Reyes Holdings now has distribution throughout Canada, Brazil, Great Britain, Puerto Rico, Kuwait, France, Panama, South Korea, Singapore, Qatar, Australia, Ireland, and Latin America.
Reyes Holdings, based in Rosemont, Illinois, is the largest privately held company in the US. The Reyes Beverage Group alone produces more than 100 million cases of beer every year. Reinhart Food Service is perhaps the most valuable division within Reyes Holdings as it is the 5th largest distributor of food services in the US. Reyes Holdings is well-diversified with more than 138 properties, real estate development, equipment leasing, and logistics management. The Reyes brothers have a combined net worth of $8 billion, which is sure to increase in the coming years as these brothers continue to acquire more distributing companies.
