William Wayne McMillian Rogers, better known by his stage name of Wayne Rogers, was born in Birmingham, Alabama in April of 1933. He attended Ramsey High School and later, The Webb School in Tennessee. He graduated in 1954 from the prestigious Princeton University with a degree in history. Rogers served in the U.S. Navy before deciding on a career in acting.
Rogers made many appearances over the years including the popular television show Gunsmoke, The F.B.I., Search for Tomorrow, The Invaders, and Stagecoach West before trying out for the television series M*A*S*H in 1972. Although he originally wanted to try out for the role of Hawkeye Pierce, which was later awarded to Alan Alda, Rogers decided that he really didn’t like the character that much. He tried out for, and won, the role of Trapper John. Rogers played 3 seasons on M*A*S*H before deciding that he wanted to try other things. This diverse star went on to appear on City of Angels, Ghosts of Mississippi, House Calls, and Murder, She Wrote. In later years, Rogers became a savvy business investor and was often seen on Fox News Channel to discuss financial matters.
Rogers passed away December 31st, 2015, due to complications from pneumonia. He was 82.
